Using Your Journal Prompt Cards

I designed the Journal Prompt Cards to be used in different ways--by yourself, with others, in a group.

Using the Cards on Your Own.
If you bought them with the disks, you have a mini-journal ready to go. There are 10 different prompts, each pack has 3 sets each. That means one pack will last a month. You can do 10 days worth, then go back and see if you can find a pattern--who and what pushes your buttons? How do you recuperate when your buttons get pushed? What part of yourself isn't showing up in your world?

Maybe 10 days isn't enough to figure out who you are. Use the whole pack before going back and looking for patterns. Or find out how often you were grateful, how often you were satisfied with your day. You'll learn a lot about yourself.

Using the Cards With Friends.
You might want to get a pack for a friend, then sit down the same time every day and fill out the card. It doesn't take long, and it's a nice way to get to know more about your friends.

Too busy to meet daily? Fill out the whole set, then get together with a group of your friends and talk about what you've learned. Do the same things delight you? What are you grateful for? Being in a group lets you figure out why you are alike and why you are different from the others in your group. Add some snacks and drinks, and it's more fun than a book club!

Using the Cards Without the Disks.
If you purchased the loose pack, you will find it interesting to sort them in different ways. Sort them by date to check progress on something you are working on. Sort them by weather to see how the weather and your moods are connected. Sort them by topic to see how you have grown over the last month.

Please respect copyright law. I hold the copyright to the Journal Prompt Cards. That means you may not photocopy them, scan them, distribute copies to others (whether or not you charge for them), or change them 20% (or any other amount) and think that makes them your invention. Ask me if you want to use them, we'll discuss it. You can reach me through the Contact Page. What I encourage you to do is embellish them, decorate them, and use them in creative ways to help create the life you want. (c) 2007. Quinn McDonald, all rights reserved.

Journal Prompt Cards as gifts or inspiration

How  else can I use the Notecards?
  • Send a pack to a special friend, even if s/he has never kept a journal
  • Carry them with you to inspire you or remind you of a goal
  • Carry a few with you to fill out while waiting in line or in a doctor's office
  • Put them in your journal at random pages and fill them out when you get to that page
  • Give a pack or two as a thoughtful hostess gift
  • Put one under your pillow to create interesting  dreams
  • Surprise your (or your child's) teacher with a pack

More Ideas for Using the Notecards

Faster than a book club
If you don't have time to do a book club, but you want to participate in a discussion group, the notecards are a great way to get an interesting discussion started.

Use Journal Prompt Cards for Reinventing  Yourself
  • Use the cards to track progress on your own reinvention
  • Spark your journaling by using the cards as journal entries for a month
  • Pick one of your cards each day to take to work to remind yourself that you are not what you do, but who you are becoming.
Can they be used with a life- or creativity coach?     Absolutely.
  • If you are working with a coach, they make great "powerful questions."
  • Working through "The Artist's Way" ? Use them as a start for Morning Pages.
